Ronen Chamber Ensemble at UIndy, Nov. 7

The Ronen Chamber Ensemble will present its second concert of the 2011-2012 season,  A Night in Bohemia, on Monday, Nov. 7, 2011, at 7:30 p.m. in the Ruth Lilly Performance Hall at the Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center on the University of Indianapolis campus.

This concert is a collaboration with UIndy’s Faculty Artist Series and is open to the public free of charge.

This is the Ronen Chamber Ensemble’s 28th concert season.  The evening features music by Czech composers Dvorak, Martinu and Husa.  ISO principal clarinetist David Bellman and ISO cellist Ingrid Fischer-Bellman are co-artistic directors of the ensemble.

The concert opens with Eight Bohemian Sketches by Karel Husa arranged by Michael Webster for flute, clarinet and piano (originally for piano duo).  This work will be performed for the first time on a Ronen program and will be played by Rebecca Arrensen, flute; David Bellman, clarinet; and Dr. Richard Ratliff, piano.

Martinu’s Second Duo for Violin and Cello will be performed by Hua Jin on violin and Ingrid Fischer-Bellman on cello.

The second half of the concert will feature Dvorak’s Serenade for Winds, which also appears for the first time on a Ronen concert.  UIndy faculty conductor Paul Krasnovsky will conduct this performance.  Instrumentalists for the Dvorak are:  Pamela French and Leonid Sirotkin, oboes; David Bellman and Cathryn Gross, clarinets; Mark Ortwein and Oleksiy Zakharov, bassoons;  Keith Sweger, Contra-bassoon; Richard Graef, Julie Beckel-Yager and Darin Sorley, horns; Ingrid Fischer-Bellman, cello, and Peter Hansen, double bass.

A reception hosted by Ronen’s Board of Directors will follow the concert in the lobby. The University of Indianapolis is located at 1400 East Hanna Avenue.
