The Butler Symphony Orchestra will present the world premiere of Astraea by Akira Kobayashi at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011,  in Clowes Memorial Hall, 4602 Sunset Avenue, Indianapolis, part of the weekend inauguration celebration for new Butler University President James Danko. All attendees are invited to greet President Danko at a reception in the Clowes Hall lobby following the performance.

Admission is free and open to the public without tickets. For more information, call 317-940-9246.

Kobayashi, professor of composition at Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music in Nagoya, Japan, wrote Astraea in the summer of 2011 for the Butler Symphony Orchestra and conductor Richard Auldon Clark.

Kobayashi’s orchestral and chamber music is performed regularly around the world, with recent performances in Finland, Canada and South America. He will be here for final Butler orchestra rehearsals and for the world premiere performance. (Butler Composer-in-Residence Michael Schelle is presenting four Kobayaski pieces at 8 p.m. Nov. 10 in Eidson-Duckwall Recital Hall, part of a JCFA Composers’ Orchestra chamber concert.)

The BSO concert also will feature Tchaikovsky’s intense and magical Symphony No. 4 and Edward Elgar’s Cello Concerto with student soloist Marianne Roszyk.
