With more and more adults returning to school but struggling to find the funds to pay for it, the Hendricks County Convention and Visitors Bureau, in partnership with the Hendricks College Network, will again offer its $1,000 Adult Tourism Scholarship.

Applications are now available for eligible Hendricks County residents. The deadline to apply is Dec. 5, 2011.

“We definitely want and need to continue strengthening our tourism workforce in Hendricks County,” said Emory Lencke, executive director of the Hendricks County Convention and Visitors Bureau. “We are just so pleased to offer this opportunity because we recognize the importance of an educated tourism workforce.”

The non-renewable scholarship is targeted for adults 23 or older who reside in Hendricks County and attend or plan to attend an accredited 2- to 4-year Indiana institution, pursuing a tourism/hospitality or business related field of study. Eligible fields of study include hotel/lodging management, restaurant, food and beverage management, travel planning, motorsports, cultural development, sports tourism and food production training. Applicants also can qualify if they are currently employed in the tourism industry at lodging facilities, restaurants or visitor attractions.

“There are so many scholarship opportunities out there for young people, but many organizations forget about adult students who are becoming more and more prevalent,” said Brandy Perrill, student services director of the Hendricks College Network. “I’m so happy that the HCCVB is stepping up again to offer this assistance.”

If you qualify and are interested, time is of the essence. The HCCVB wants to award the scholarship prior to the Christmas holiday, giving applicants four weeks to apply. A list of the application requirements will be detailed on the application form.

Applications can be found online at or on the Hendricks College Network’s website at They can also be picked up in person at the offices of the Hendricks County Convention and Visitors Bureau, 8 W. Main St., Danville or at the Hendricks College Network office, 5250 E. U.S. 36, Suite 1000-5, Avon.

Completed applications need to be returned to the Hendricks College Network between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. in person or by mail with a postmark date no later than Dec. 5.
