As the University of Indianapolis prepares to welcome this year’s NFC champions for pre-Super Bowl practice sessions, UIndy President Beverley Pitts will discuss her own NFL history in a public event Wednesday.

Dr. Pitts, also a professor of journalism, has been a longtime consultant, writer and researcher for the National Football League Players Association. That work has included four national surveys of former NFL players – often regarding injuries, retirement and other post-career issues – with results featured in USA Today, Newsday, Sports Medicine, Sports Illustrated and other publications.

“What I Have Learned from Football” is the title of the presentation and Q&A session, this year’s Provost’s Lecture at UIndy. Free and open to the public, the event will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, in Ruth Lilly Performance Hall of UIndy’s Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center, Hanna Avenue and Shelby Street. A reception with light refreshments will follow at 8 p.m.

Pitts, who took the helm at UIndy in 2005, has announced that she will retire in June. A national search is under way for the university’s next president.
