The public is invited to a reception for the opening of a new permanent exhibit at the Johnson County Museum of History in Franklin, entitled “In the Business of Good Health,” on Friday March 23, 2012, 6-8 p.m. The exhibit recalls the small town, locally owned pharmacies around the 1920s, and the important role they played in the health of Johnson County residents.

The museum acquired several key artifacts for the exhibit from the former Shaffer’s Drugstore of Edinburgh, which closed in 2011 after years in business. The items include the original druggist’s cabinet, a mortar and pestle, as well as a variety of products sold at the pharmacy over the years.

The Johnson County Museum is located at 135 North Main Street in downtown Franklin. The exhibit can also be seen during regular hours of Tuesday through Friday 9am to 4pm, and Saturdays 10-3. Visit for more information, or call 317-346-4500.
