Battling Zombies with Creativity at Service Center
Second Story Celebrates the Spooky Season with Writing Events

Studies show that, without creativity, kids are more likely to turn into zombies. But never fear! Second Story, the Indianapolis-based youth creative writing project, is working hard to fight off the youth zombie apocalypse with some spooky events and activities at Service Center for Culture and Community on Oct. 26-27, 2012.

Write of the Living Dead
Sponsored by Punchnel’s, Faegre Baker Daniels, Well Done Marketing, Lafayette Square Mall, and Service Center — happens on Friday, Oct. 26 with Punchnel’s Writer Night for Second Story: Write of the Living Dead Edition at 7 p.m. at Service Center for Contemporary Culture and Community, 3819 Lafayette Rd. Join us for a night of ghoulish good fun and readings from pro horror writers Laird Barron, Gary Braunbeck, and Hugo winner Catherynne Valente—plus the winners of Punchnel’s Zombific(a)tion! zombie story contest. It’s free and fun for everyone. (But, hey—it’s horror. Parental discretion is advised.)

Saturday, Oct. 27: Horror Writing Workshop Service Center for Culture and Community 1-3 p.m.
Get personal attention and learn from the pros! Laird, Gary, and Catherynne will be on hand to help you get in touch with your inner demons in intimate writing sessions. Space will be limited to 15 attendees. Cost — just $25. Hardly an arm or a leg. Call (317) 408-1366 or visit to sign up.

Saturday, Oct. 27: The Big Family Zombie Tag Party Service Center for Culture and Community 6-9 p.m.
Undead moms and dads and kids of all ages: join us for the biggest zombie tag party of the year! We’re playing zombie tag, telling scary stories, enjoying holiday treats, and having fun. Beer, wine, soft drinks, and cider will be available, and all proceeds benefit Second Story. You don’t have to dress up–just come hang out with the zombies! It’s just $10 for adults, $5 for kids 12 and under.

About Second Story

life. Second Story’s mission is to help kids 6 to 18 find joy in writing as they discover their voices, explore their world, and embrace a life of curiosity and self-expression.
