Brown County is a place for Arts, Nature and Adventure. And during the entire month of October, you can find all three on the 2012 Back Roads of Brown County Studio Tour. Drive down scenic back roads, wind through woods decked out in their finest fall colors, and stop along the way to visit 15 local artists and craftspeople working in 10 home studio locations.

Visitors can watch artwork created before their eyes. Potters will throw bowls and mugs. Jewelry makers will show the tricks of their trade. Woodworkers will explain their choices of materials. Visitors can watch painters at work on canvas and gourds, glass beads being made, books being hand bound, and rugs being woven on hand looms.

Along with meeting the artists, visitors can experience working artists’ studios, explore the spaces that inspire artists, and shop for and purchase artwork directly from those who made it, just in time for the Holidays. Artists will be featuring new artwork, Holiday decorations, stocking stuffers, and one-of-a-kind items perfect for that thoughtful gift.

This self-guided driving tour is free to the public. A well-drawn map and road signs will guide visitors from studio to studio, and since it’s October and the trees are ablaze, getting there is half the fun. Studio hours vary, so it is important to check the map and brochure for details. More information and pictures of each artists’ work can be found at http://www.BrownCountyStudioTour.com/.

Maps are available at various area businesses, participating studios, the Brown County Visitor Center in downtown Nashville (pictured above), and at the studio tour website.
