No holiday season in Johnson County is complete without a visit to see beautiful seasonal decorations at the Johnson County Museum, located at 135 North Main Street in Franklin. Throughout December, the museum’s main floor and auditorium will be transformed into a beautiful Winter Wonderland that will delight all ages. Fifteen local non-profit organizations help decorate the museum by participating in the annual Dec-A-Tree holiday tree decoration contest, and votes from museum visitors will help determine the winners. Most important of all, Santa Claus will visit the museum’s auditorium on the first two Saturdays in December.

December 1st, 2-4:30pm: Celebrate the annual Johnson County tradition of a visit with Santa Claus at the museum prior to the Downtown Franklin holiday lighting parade.  Courtesy of our sponsor Main Street Market, a 4 x 6 photo of your child with Santa is free of charge. There will be crafts for kids, and holiday-themed games and activities too, so plan on coming early!

December 8th, noon-3pm: Why deal with mall traffic, when you can visit Santa and experience traditional holiday fun for free at the Johnson County Museum? Enjoy the museum’s beautiful holiday decorations, and vote for your favorite Dec-A-Tree display while waiting to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus.  Photos with Santa can be purchased for $5. Kids can make a holiday-themed craft, and learn about Johnson County history by participating in the museum scavenger hunt.  Event sponsored by Mutual Savings Bank.

December 15, 1-3pm: The sounds of beautiful music will fill the air, when “The Voices of Franklin” choral group performs holiday favorites at the museum’s annual Open House.  Enjoy complimentary apple cider and cookies, and be sure to take a moment to vote for your favorite Dec-A-Tree entry. You can also see “This Historic House”, our popular photography exhibit that continues through the end of the month.

Admission to all holiday events at The Johnson County Museum is free of charge.  For further information about the museum, please call 317-346-4500, or visit our website at www.johnsoncountymuseum.org.
