An unexpected love affair and a violent assault set the stage for an exploration of relationships in Stop Kiss, opening Nov. 30 and presented by the University of Indianapolis Department of Theatre.

The 1998 work by American playwright Diana Son tells the tale of Callie (Morgan Jackson) and Sara (Ashley Clark), two young women living in New York City whose friendship evolves into something more. Their first kiss provokes a physical attack by a stranger that leaves Sara in a coma. Two male friends (Ross Percell and Will Schnabel) try to help in the aftermath, with mixed results. The story is told in alternating scenes from before and after the assault, which is not seen onstage.

Performances are at 8 p.m. Nov. 30 through Dec. 2 and Dec. 6-8 in Studio Theatre of UIndy’s Esch Hall, 1400 E. Hanna Ave. Admission is $11 for the general public, $10 for seniors, groups of eight or more and non-UIndy students. A free preview is scheduled for 8 p.m. Nov. 29.

The production contains adult language and content that may be inappropriate for minors.
