Celebrate this Valentine’s Day with the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site for the Candlelight Theatre presentation of Our Funny Valentine, followed by dinner at the University Club.

Candlelight Theatre, formerly Victorian Theatre by Candlelight, announces their official name change with a debut performance arranged for stage by resident playwright James Trofatter.  Works by historical authors such as Charles Dickens and Lewis Carroll come to life as “Our Funny Valentine” travels back to the Victorian era offering three divergent, yet humorous themes of love.

Guests will be entertained by the illustration of absurd love as discussed by Carroll’s King and Queen of Hearts in the Harrison’s master bedroom, unrequited love presented by Dickens’ Miss Havisham in the dining room and illogical love dissected by the inscrutable Sherlock Holmes in the library of the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site.

“Our Funny Valentine” begins at 6 p.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2013, at the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site, 1230 North Delaware Street. Guests are encouraged to reserve their tickets early as space is limited.

The Candlelight Theatre presents 19th century and early 20th century theatre within the furnishings of the Presidential mansion. The troupe regularly offers an annual spring and winter event, but this year’s Valentine’s Day program is the first of its kind.  Cast and characters featured in “Our Funny Valentine” will include Trofatter and Donna Wing as the King and Queen of Hearts, Jill Murrell as Miss Havisham and Mark Cashwell as Sherlock Holmes.

Tickets, which include dinner for two at the University Club, 970 North Delaware Street, are $170 for couples or $160 for BHPS member couples. Individual tickets are available upon request. For more information or to purchase tickets, please call 317-631-1888 or visit the venue’s Web site at
