The NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Midwest Regional will be at Lucas Oil Stadium March 29 and 31 this year, one of four national locations for these “Sweet 16” and “Elite 8” games. High-speed dirt bike racing will be at Lucas Oil Stadium on March 16 at 7 p.m. as the Monster Energy Supercross comes to town – tickets start at just $15. NCAA swimming and diving championships come to the IU Natatorium this month on two different weekends: women’s March 21 – 23 and men’s March 28 – 30. Warmer weather brings back run/walks!

No, it’s not quite summer, but March is about the time to dust off the running shoes and take part in some of the great run/walks for great causes Downtown! The 500 Festival Training Series 10K, the second training series run, takes off March 9 at 8 a.m. in front of the NCAA Hall of Champions. Those interested in running in the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon on May 4 still have time to register online! Two other events “run” on March 9: the Fight for Air Climb at the Regions Tower supporting the American Lung Association and the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s Muscle Walk at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. The 22nd annual Shamrock Run is on March 16, starting and finishing at Monument Circle – see above for more information on St. Patrick’s Day events Downtown. March 30, the Bunny Rock 5K and Egg Hunt takes place at White River State Park, complete with a live petting zoo, 80s rock music, bunny ears and more.

Downtown exhibits: famous guitars, return of the butterflies

Ancient axes will be at the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art – but not the axes you may be thinking of. Guitars! Roundups to Rockers opens March 9 and features more than 100 guitars owned by legendary musicians like Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Buddy Holly, Les Paul and more. These guitars have never been displayed together like this before, and likely never will be again!

One of the all-time favorite exhibits at the Indianapolis Zoo will return March 22 – Butterfly Kaleidoscope inside The Hilbert Conservatory at the White River Gardens. Walk amongst the 40 species of butterflies and learn about their metamorphosis.

And don’t forget about The Lincolns: Five Generations of an American Family at the Indiana State Museum, open now through Aug. 4, and the many wonderful exhibits currently at the Indianapolis Museum of Art including Graphite and the prints of Gabor Peterdi. And as always, IDADA First Friday will present a fantastic array of FREE evening gallery openings on March 1.
