Thousands of competitors from across the U.S. and several countries representing every walk of life, age, stage and varying degrees of athletic abilities and spectators will converge on Haspin Acres, 21208 Laurel Rd, Laurel, Ind., April 27, 2013, to tackle the Reebok Spartan Race Sprint . Laurel is located in Franklin County in southeastern Indiana between Andersonville and Metamora.

Described by Joe De Sena, Spartan Race founder, as “a 4-mile+ battlefield of insane mud running with obstacles to test your physical strength and mental resolve,” the Indiana event will begin at 8:00 a.m. with heats of up to 200 participants leaving every half hour throughout the day.

“The unique obstacle course will demand every ounce of strength, ingenuity and animal instinct you thought you lost three generations ago,” De Sena noted, adding that course details are kept secret until competitors experience them firsthand on race day.

Daylong events also will feature the Jr. Spartan Adventure Race benefiting Kids Fit Foundation. A leader in the movement to help children learn life-long health and fitness habits, Kids Fit Foundation strives to raise awareness and develop programs that educate, empower and inspire kids to become and stay fit.

Spartan Race further has teamed up with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training (TNT), creating an online training program exclusively for TNT to prepare participants for the event. While they train, participants will raise funds to support lifesaving cancer research and have an opportunity to earn cool incentives. Learn more about running a Spartan Race with TNT at

Founded in 2010, the race series expects to attract 500,000 athletes in 2013, up from 350,000 in 2012, many of whom are people looking for a new alternative to more traditional forms of fitness.  Spartan Race currently has more than 2.3 million “likes” on Facebook and is one of the fastest growing series in the sport of obstacle racing.
