With the birth of future King “What’s-his-Name” (Whatever his name is, it will not be Prince Pierogi), Whiting’s Pierogi Fest in Lake County, Indiana, has announced a special salute to the Royal Throne.

While most festivals offer port-a-potties, Pierogi Fest will offer real flush toilets, which festival organizers refer to as the Royal Pee-rogi and Royal Poo-rogi Stations.  “We have a slogan that sums up our commitment to excellence and gives us the opportunity to celebrate the Royal birth,” noted Tom Dabertin, Festival Chairperson.  “When the food goes in like the pizza that Kate and William enjoyed the other night, it will have to come out at some point.  We want the entire experience at Pierogi Fest from start to finish to be enjoyable.”

Karen Gajewski, Executive Director of the Whiting-Robertsdale Chamber of Commerce stated:  “The Chamber feels it’s time to expose the ‘poop’ so to speak.  This has to be the only festival in America to issue a press release saluting the Royal family with its bathrooms, but hey this is Pierogi Fest.  It is just another example of how completely off-the-wall, mad-cap, and the irreverent sense of humor that the festival offers.  As nutty as this might sound, the trailers really are quite nice, air conditioned, and constantly maintained.”

This year’s festival offers five trailers for the comfort of the 250,000+ attendees, each equal to dozens of port-a-potties.  “We don’t want to disappoint, so if you prefer the “commoner” regular port-a-potty with the blue water in the tank, we have a few of those too,” added Dabertin.

Pierogi Fest will be held July 26-28, 2013, and draws more than 250,000 visitors, featuring more than 75 food vendors, 100 arts and crafts vendors and dozens of specialty vendors, along with four entertainment stages.  Its parade, held Friday night at 7 PM, is considered to be the most hilarious and bizarre parade in the Midwest.

Pierogi Fest has been named by Trip Advisor as one of the Top Ten Wackiest Festivals, a Yahoo Blue Ribbon Festival, named by Oprah Winfrey as one of her favorite things to do; winner for the fifth consecutive year of the Times of Northwest Indiana’s Best Festival; featured on The Food Channel, Travel Channel, television stations throughout the United States, CNN, Germany, Slovakia, Poland China, Australia and from throughout the Chicago area.
