Madison Chautauqua Art Festival, Sept. 28-29
By Tammy York
Get your art fix at the Madison Chautauqua Art Festival, September 28-29, 2013, between Main Street to the Ohio River and Broadway to Vine streets. An estimated 50,000 people are expected to attend this 43rd annual celebration that hosts 250 booths.
“An independent juried panel evaluates each application and decides whether or not this product should be in the event,” said Georgie Kelly, event coordinator. The panel includes an art teacher, professor, artists, artisans, as well as people with retail business experience. The jurying continues throughout the event to ensure that the event is good for both the vendors and the guests. The number of vendors in each category is limited. Categories include fine art, photography, glass, wood, clay pottery, accessories, jewelry, clothing, soap, metal and more.
Performing artists are located throughout the festival and range from easy listening to Dixieland. Plus, at the Visitors Center the Madison High School Theatre Program will be presenting excerpts from their upcoming musical.
Guests can enjoy a bite to eat at the FoodFest along the Ohio River. Delicacies include German desserts, corn on the cob, gyros, Italian sausage and onions, pizza, Wisconsin cheese, Cajun, Mexican, barbecue, funnel cakes, corn dogs, giant soft pretzels, and more.
A shuttle service is available from the parking area at the high school to the Madison Chautauqua for $1 per ride.
