Families can participate in a conservation project, get up-close with an American Kestrel Falcon and enjoy hot dogs and s’mores in Indiana’s newest nature preserve on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. But families won’t have to travel far to visit this slice of natural Indiana. They’ll find it just a stone’s throw from Keystone at the Crossing, at Oliver’s Woods Nature Preserve along White River.
At the event, visitors will participate in a river seining demonstration, gathering living creatures from the waters at Oliver’s Woods. The demonstration will be led by Dr. Thomas Simon, author of the book Fishers of Indiana. Dr. Simon will explain how to find living creatures in a healthy ecosystem like the White River.
Families also will enjoy a free hot dog lunch and s’mores, and learn about and see an American Kestrel falcon. The fun will also include a campfire, a guided tour of the property, and chances to explore the oasis of green that is Marion County’s newest nature preserve.
