The venerable Broadway musical “West Side Story” brings one of the greatest love stories of all time to the Honeywell Center in Wabash, Indiana, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, January 2, 2014. “West Side Story,” part of the 2013-2014 season of the Wabash Valley Music Association Series, is presented by Wellbrooke of Wabash.

50 years after its Broadway debut, “West Side Story” remains the genre’s best dance-driven musical with extraordinary choreography to American musical theater classics, including “Something’s Coming,” “Tonight,” “I Feel Pretty” and “Somewhere” by legendary composers Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim. The revival, based on Tony Award-winning librettist Arthur Laurents’ Broadway direction, remains as powerful, poignant and timely as ever.

“West Side Story” tells the story of star-crossed lovers, Tony and Maria, as they struggle to rise above the hatred and intolerance that surrounds them. From the first note to the final breath, the score featuring Bernstein music and Sondheim lyrics soars.

The Associated Press says “West Side Story” “remains Broadway’s best dance-driven musical. Five decades has not dimmed the extraordinary choreography or the score that pulsates throughout.” Variety says “”The true stars of ‘West Side Story’ are Jerome Robbins’ graceful, endlessly expressive choreography and Leonard Bernstein’s score, which still sounds bracingly modern a half-century after it was first heard. The music is a primal force.”

Single tickets are $54, $38 and $24 and may be purchased at the box office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, by calling 260-563-1102 or visiting
