The Paramount Heritage Foundation, Inc. celebrates Black History Month through March with historical storytelling. By virtue of a grant provided by The Madison County Community Foundation, Inc., The Paramount presents a Black History Month Celebration Series, with three distinctive performances providing historical accounts of important events in our nation’s civil rights history.

Wed., Jan. 29, 2014, 7 pm.
The first of the series features “Stories from the Underground Railroad,” presented by Bob Sander and Deborah Asante. In this dramatic storytelling event, the perils of the enslaved people’s escape to freedom are shared as the characters travel along the informal route known as the Underground Railroad.  Songs, rhythms and the story of the lives to two children bring these tales to life.

Thu., Feb. 20, 2014, 7 pm.
The second presentation of the series features “Tuskegee Airmen of World War II,” presented by Rochel Garner Coleman II. The audience will learn the history of the Tuskegee Airmen during World War II through the character, Captain Charles H. Debrow.  These stories are based on research and oral histories gathered from living airmen.

Wed., Mar. 19, 2014, 7 pm.
The third presentation of the series features “This Little Light of Mine- Civil Rights through the Eyes of a Child” presented by Deborah Asante.  Listeners will experience the story of the Children’s Crusade of 1963 through the eyes of one of the children who marched.

Tickets prices for the three part series are $15 for Adults and $6 for children/students.  Individual presentation tickets are $7 for adults and $3 for children/students.  Tickets are available at the Paramount Box Office, Tuesday-Friday, 9 am to 5 pm, or online at www.andersonparamount.org. Tix.com service fees apply.

The presenters are teaching artists from Arts for Learning, the Indiana Affiliate of Young Audiences from Indianapolis.  They are all professional artists who have gone through a rigorous audition process and receive ongoing training on teaching in and through the arts. Annually, Arts for Learning the Indiana Affiliate of Young Audiences reaches approximately 65,000 students with quality arts in education programming.
