Bring mom Downtown for Mother’s Day May 11! Many Downtown restaurants will open for brunch and special events take place throughout the day including tea at Morris-Butler House and live jazz at Old National Centre.

Steampunk Mother’s Day Tea at Morris-Butler House
May 10 from 1 – 3 p.m.
Treat your mom to a special Steampunk-themed Mother’s Day tea at the Morris-Butler House Museum (see photo above). Circle City Aerodrome – Indianapolis’ own steampunk group – will explain the creative movement that blends steam-powered gadgets and 20th century marvels in a world of Victorian fashion, literature, art and history.
Mother’s Day Weekend at the Indianapolis Zoo
May 10 – 11 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
The Zoo is all about moms this weekend, whether they’re human or not. Take part in activities like a scavenger hunt, mom-themed keeper chats, Mother’s Day photo stations and more.
Mother’s Day Gospel Brunch at Old National Centre
May 11 at 1 p.m.
Considered by many to be the most popular brunch experience in the country, Gospel Brunch combines uplifting live music with a spectacular all-you-can-eat brunch.

Old World Gondoliers kicks off their season on May 11, just in time for Mother’s Day. You and mom will enjoy a 30 or 60-minute singing gondola ride as you are transported into Old Italy (or the Indianapolis Canal).
Eat out with mom
The Hilton will host a traditional Mother’s Day Brunch in their ballroom from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Selections include traditional breakfast food, omelets made to order, a salad bar, pasta made to order, a carving station, a chocolate fountain and more. Also included: complimentary valet parking, a glass of champagne or mimosa and flowers for mom.

Make reservations in advance for brunch at the Propylaeum – this has become an annual tradition for many Indianapolis families and sells out quickly. Seatings are available on May 11 at noon, 12:30, 2:30 and 3:15 p.m.

Other fun happenings
Bring mom to explore Terra Cotta Warriors: The Emperor’s Painted Army at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, featuring eight warriors, a “painted” warrior head from Xi’an dig pits and more than 100 authentic artifacts. Opening May 10, just one day before Mother’s Day, this exhibition will be the only chance to see the warriors in the U.S. in 2014. Take Me There: China is also opening May 10 and is one of the largest exhibits about contemporary China ever produced in the US.
Kids ages 3 -12 can participate in the Chase 500 Festival Kid’s Day & Rookie Run, a non-competitive fun run, on May 10 at 11 a.m. Just like the Mini-Marathon participants, kids receive a goodie bag, a runners bib and a finisher’s medal.
Take mom to the ballpark! The Indians take on the Norfolk Tides on May 10 at 7:05 p.m. and on May 11 at 1:35 p.m. Attend the Sunday game and kids eat free!
