Who will answer the call to “Come Show Us Your Loins?” Visitors to Greensburg, Indiana on Saturday, July 19, 2014 will find out for themselves during Mainstreet Greensburg’s inaugural Tenderloin Throwdown.

The search for the best tenderloin in Indiana begins at 10 am on the Tower Tree Square and continues until 6 pm. Competitors will be vying for top honors in four categories: Breaded, Grilled, Creative, and the People’s Choice. An esteemed panel of judges will gather at 1 pm to begin sampling the tasty loins in each category. Winners will be announced at 2:45 pm. Visitors will be able to participate in voting for the People’s Choice between 11-2 pm.  One sample per booth per visitors; each sampler must have a passport to participate.  Stop by the main event tent to get your passport.

Why a Tenderloin Throwdown? “Hoosier Soul Food” is how one tenderloin groupie describes it. “Greensburg is home to many restaurants that serve their unique variations of the tenderloin, so we thought, ‘Why not invite all to a throwdown and see who comes out on top?'” said Stephanie Kress, Mainstreet Greensburg. It shouldn’t be hard to find: just head down to the square and the festivities will be all around the famous Tree on the Courthouse tower.

Some of the competitors announced to date include: Lil Charlies, Mayasari’s Indonesian Grill, Columbus Bar, Sugar Shakers Bakery, and Lincoln Street Grill.

During the Throwdown there will entertainment and activities for the entire family. The Arts and Cultural Council is hosting a Chalk Expo where Greensburg High School students will be creating chalk art. Youth visiting can pay $1 and take a section of Franklin Street to create their work.

According to Bill Rethlake, ACCDC executive director, “We look for a way for projects to challenge creativity and involve our youth! The Chalk Expo supplies this in abundance.”

In addition, families can check out the Kid’s Zone which will have a variety of activities for our smallest visitors including:  a bouncy house obstacle course, a 16 ft tall inflatable slide, gold fish pond, and an air brush tattoo artist for free.  And don’t forget to stop by our Selfie Photo Booth! Post your selfie online with a  #tenderlointhrowdown hashtag.

Entertainment is being planned throughout the day. At 10 am Devon Brown, Elite Obstacle Course competitor including Spartan World Championships and World’s Toughest Mudder, will be offering a free Spartan Boot Camp demonstration presented by Change Fitness at 10 am on the courthouse lawn. The demo will last approximately 60 minutes and will include several fun-themed fitness challenges. Participants will also receive priority registration to future boot camps. A free will offering will be accepted for the Wounded Warrior Project to benefit those who have served our country.
