The Indianapolis Rainbow Chamber of Commerce presents “The Grand Marriage Equality Wedding Event, Indiana’s first same-sex Wedding Expo, to be held on Sunday, April 12, 2015 at the Indiana Grand Casino in Shelbyville, Indiana.

Bob Chenoweth, Chairman of the Board for the Rainbow Chamber is excited about this history making event. “As same-sex marriage is now legal in Indiana, many members of the gay community have begun planning weddings and running into opposition from caterers, bakeries and venues who do not support gay marriage.”

In response to this action the Indy Rainbow Chamber is partnering with gay and gay-friendly businesses that are welcoming to these couples planning that very special day.

This history making event will host nearly 30 wedding vendors providing a range of services including caterers, photographers, flowers, wedding officiants and representatives from some of the top wedding venues, such as The Conrad Hotel, The Skyline Club and The Sanctuary.

In addition to on-site weddings and vow renewals, the event will feature music and dancing, dance lessons, and information from wedding professionals to help you plan the perfect wedding.

Same-sex marriage in Indiana could boost economy In the past month, same-sex marriage has gained momentum across the country as more federal judges reject state laws that have banned the unions.

But outside the courtrooms, one impact of expanding the definition of legal marriage is becoming clearer — its effect on local economies.

In a new report by the Williams Institute, researchers say Indiana, would see an economic boost of $39.1 million to the state and local economies, due to legalization of same-sex marriage.

It is predicted that 5,537 instate same-sex couples would marry in the first three years creating a $25 million boost in the first year alone. The Indy Rainbow Chamber is positioning its member businesses to be a part of this growing industry.

Indiana’s economy may still get a boost from a number of couples traveling from the bordering states of Ohio, Kentucky and Michigan, who do not currently allow same-sex couples to marry.

Indy Rainbow chamber President JJ Guffreda says “It is our desire to help the members of the LGBT community connect with businesses who want to help them celebrate one of the most important days of their lives, with the same dignity and joy afforded to the heterosexual community.”

The Grand Marriage Equality Marriage Event is free to the public and will be held on Sunday, April 12, 2015, at the Indiana Grand Racing Casino, 4300 North Michigan Road, Shelbyville, IN from 2:00 to 6:00 pm.
