A lot of people were terribly disappointed when they heard the news that the Mac Genie food truck in Indianapolis had shut down its operations. Their gourmet mac and cheese was such a hit that it was not uncommon to stand in line for a long time just to place your order. I can tell you from six years of photographing the Indy food trucks that the lines were nearly always the longest in front of the Genie, such as on this cold January weekday night in Irvington a couple of years ago:

Or this photo at a Food Truck Friday event at the Old National Centre, also in 2012:

So I completely understand why there were more than a few tears shed when Mac Genie turned out the lights and locked the door. But GOOD NEWS, oh Indy citizenry! Lisa Moreno Moyer, owner of Greiner’s Sub Shop (and Scouts Treat Cupcake Truck and the Bark Truck, too!), has negotiated a limited time deal with Mac Genie to serve the Genie’s famous mac and cheese on the Greiner’s menu.

The opening night celebration for this “Greiner’s Grants Your Wish” promotion is Friday, Mar. 27, 2015, 5-9 PM. A Greiner’s sub with Mac Genie mac and cheese and a fountain drink will go for $11.11, and you can even meet the Genie and wish her well in her future endeavors.

There is limited seating of 100 for the opening night celebration, so don’t delay. You can reserve a seat for this special event at this Web address: https://squareup.com/market/greiners/greiner-s-grants-your-wish-dinner.

After the opening night celebration, it’s my understanding that Mac Genie’s mac and cheese will continue to be available on the Greiner’s menu for a few weeks only.

Greiner’s Sub Shop (pictured below) is located at 2126 Shelby Street, just a block north of Shelby’s intersection with Raymond Street (I-65 Exit 109). I’m going to stop by to wish Genie well; I hope you will, too.
