INDIANAPOLIS (February 11, 2019)– The newest exhibit at the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site [1230 North Delaware St., Indianapolis], Glitz & Glamour in the White House, will feature two centuries of fashion, glitz and glam from the Executive Office. The exhibit, opening March 7, 2019, showcases over-the-top gifts, accessories, heartfelt folk art, ostentatious furniture and one-of-a-kind keepsakes surrounding the presidency of the United States.
The gifts received from foreign heads of state are part of the record of American diplomacy. Gifts from American and foreign citizens often expressed either personal warmth or their feelings for the president. Many of these gifts are examples of the finest decorative arts and craftsmanship available around the world. Come explore these artifacts for yourself, from gimmicky apparel to stately pearl-adorned evening gowns, heartfelt folk-art to ostentatious furniture, solid gold commemorative coins to questionable keepsakes.
The Glitz & Glamour exhibit will hold its grand opening on Thursday, March 7 from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. Light refreshments and beverages will be provided at this open house-style event, which will take place in the Welcome Center of the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site. The event is open to the public. Tickets are available at http://bit.ly/GlitzGrandOpening.

Glitz & Glamour will run through December 31, 2019.
The Presidential Site offers daily guided tours. Tours are on the hour and half-hour, and last approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Hours are Monday through Sunday, 10 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Members may attend for free, and the general public may purchase tickets for $6 per person. Civil War Dinners at Benjamin Harrison Home, July 24

The Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site is serving up its popular Civil War Dinners on Thursday, July 24, 2014, 6:30-9:30 p.m. Guests will enjoy an authentic dinner experience with “General Benjamin Harrison” and members of his “Aide-de-Camp” during this unique and interactive event.
Rather than sheet-iron crackers, canned foods and dehydrated vegetables that soldiers rationed and ate, guests will enjoy fine wine, hors d’oeuvres and a full dinner. The event begins in the Carriage House and includes a tour of President Benjamin Harrison’s home.

- Grab some ideas for your own holiday décor during the IMA’s annual Winter Solstice. In celebration of the 100th anniversary of Oldfields, the IMA will be looking to the 1900s and 1910s for decor inspiration. Warm up in the Lilly House with historic holiday decorations and music, then finish up your shopping at the Greenhouse and Museum.

- Holiday season at the authentically-restored 1875 Italianate home of President Benjamin Harrison features Victorian holiday adornment.
Monday, Dec. 23
National Institute of Fitness and Sport (NIFS), open 5:15 a.m. – 10 p.m.
- Put in a little time on a treadmill or in a group fitness class and enjoy that holiday Eggnog without the guilt. NIFS offers an indoor NBA regulation-sized basketball court, Pilates studio, group fitness studio, 200-meter indoor track, fully-equipped weight room and more than 100 pieces of cardio equipment. Parking is available directly across the facility in the Riverwalk Garage (NIFS will validate.) Children ages 11-17 must be accompanied by an adult. A nursery is available for children under age 11 (see hours on website).
Tuesday, Dec. 24
The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, open 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
- Holidays sparkle at the world’s largest children’s museum. Visit Jolly Days Winter Wonderland and experience the giant Yule Slide.
