Circle of Lights® presented by the Contractors of Quality Connection and Electrical Workers of IBEW #481

100,000 spectators. 4,784 colored lights. 52 garland strands. 52 larger-than-life decorations. 51 years. One must-see holiday tradition! The Circle of Lights® presented by the Contractors of Quality Connection and Electrical Workers of IBEW 481 takes place Nov. 29, the day after Thanksgiving, from 6 – 8 p.m. on Monument Circle with live entertainment. The lighting takes place at approximately 7:45 p.m. with fireworks. Year after year, generations of families are drawn to Downtown’s incredible holiday centerpiece. (The actual installation of the centerpiece decor will take place Saturday, Nov. 9 on Monument Circle.  Approximately 200 IBEW #481volunteers will be on hand to install the 52 light strands.)

Coloring Contest: chance to win $529 College Choice Fund AND “flip the switch”

Children age 12 and under have the opportunity to “flip the switch” at the Circle of Lights® presented by the Contractors of Quality Connection and Electrical Workers of IBEW 481 Friday, Nov. 29 via a Coloring Contest.   New this year, five College Choice 529 $529 Direct Savings scholarships will be awarded to four finalists as well as the “grand prize” winner, who will appear on stage at the Circle of Lights® with Santa. Indy loves music!

November has plenty to offer music fans. Christine Andrea celebrates romance and her favorite songs in Love is Good Nov. 15 and 16 at 8 p.m. at The Cabaret at The Columbia Club.

Check out two not-to-miss performances at Hilbert Circle Theatre in November: Former Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra Music Director Mario Venzago makes his much anticipated return Nov. 1 and 2 at 8 p.m. The ISO will turn back the clock to the 1960s Nov. 8 – 10. The Beat Goes On: Music of the Baby Boomers will feature music by Burt Bacharach, Simon & Garfunkel, Frankie Valli and more.

For jazz lovers, Madame Walker Theatre Center showcases Jazz on the Avenue every last Friday of the month at 6 p.m. Listen to some of Indianapolis’ best musicians and vocalists while enjoying a catered dinner and drinks.

Two big names are coming to Bankers Life Fieldhouse: Selena Gomez performs Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. and P!nk performs Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m.

Theater and performance arts

The much anticipated Wicked returns to Downtown Indy, playing at Old National Centre Nov. 13 – Dec. 1.

Another favorite holiday tradition returns to Indianapolis: Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol at the Indiana Repertory Theatre. From Nov. 16 – Dec. 24, witness magic happen on this snow-covered stage.

America’s best-selling jazz trumpeter, Chris Botti, returns to the Hilbert Circle Theatre Nov. 26 at 7:30 p.m. performing charts from his 2012 Grammy Award-winning CD, Impressions.

Veterans Day Parade

This year’s parade takes place Nov. 11 at 11:45 a.m. and includes more than 80 units. The parade begins at Michigan and Pennsylvania streets, moves south on Pennsylvania Street to New York Street Street, west to Meridian Street and finishes at North Street.  There will also be a musical prelude at 10:30 a.m. and memorial service at 11 a.m. on the north steps of the Indiana War Memorial.

Holidays are just around the corner

The Indianapolis Museum of Art will celebrate Christmas at Lilly House Nov. 10 – Jan. 6. The home’s architecture will be decked out with ribbons, wreaths, garland and other fine holiday decorations reminiscent of the 30s and 40s.

Have a wonderful Christmas time at Jolly Days Winter Wonderland Nov. 23 – Jan. 5 at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. Take a ride down the ever-popular Yule Slide and discover the Ice Castle and fishing holes. Santa will also be making appearances throughout the season, with his first arrival (in a Dallara IndyCar!) Nov. 29 at 9 a.m.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will entertain visitors at Celebration Crossing at the Indiana State Museum Nov. 29 – Dec. 31.  Take part in annual festivities by taking a ride to holidays past on the original L.S. Ayres Santa Claus Express train.

Grab some hot chocolate and join in the fun at the Indianapolis Zoo’s annual Christmas at the Zoo presented by Donatos and Teachers Credit Union Nov. 29 – Dec. 30 open Wednesday – Sunday and Monday, Dec. 23. Watch a holiday-themed dolphin show, visit the animals, decorate cookies and enjoy special activities throughout the Zoo.

WHAT:              Lights, camera… perform! Be a part of a very special tradition – 51 years in the making.  It’s time for Indy’s own renowned holiday auditions. Quality Connection, IBEW #481, RTV-6 and Indianapolis Downtown, Inc. are seeking entertainers to perform at the 51st anniversary of the Circle of Lights® presented by the Contractors of Quality Connection and Electrical Workers of IBEW #481 on Friday, Nov. 29.

Auditions will be recorded and made into an RTV-6 Circle of Lights® audition special, The Circle of Lights® Talent Search.The show will take viewers behind the scenes for the drama as hundreds of Hoosier singers, dancers and entertainers vie for coveted spots in the beloved Circle of Lights show.  The one-hour Circle of Lights® Talent Search will premiere Tuesday, Nov. 26 from 7 – 8 p.m. on RTV-6 and again Thanksgiving night, Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. This is in addition to RTV-6’s live coverage of the Circle of Lights® Friday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m.

Selected finalists from first auditions will be called back for a final audition Oct. 15.  With more than 100 acts auditioning each year, a second audition allows judges to focus on the top acts and then select the finalists to perform in the live show.

The chosen acts will have the opportunity to share the stage with Indianapolis native Sandi Patty and The von Trapp Family singers, both appearing at the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra’s Duke Energy Yuletide Celebration.

WHEN:              Thursday, Sept. 26 from 4 – 8 p.m.

WHERE:            IBEW Local 481 Hall, 1828 North Meridian St.

WHO:               Quality Connection, IBEW #481, RTV-6 & Indianapolis Downtown, Inc.

NOTE:               A second open audition will be Saturday, Oct. 5 from 9 a.m. – noon at the Electrical Training Institute, 1751 S. Lawndale Ave. (Take Sam Jones Expressway to Lynhurst.  North on Lynhurst to Minnesota.  West on Minnesota to Lawndale.  Left on S. Lawndale just before the I-465 overpass.)

Call-back auditions will take place for selected finalists (by invite only) on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 6:30 p.m..

There is no need to pre-register for auditions.  Performers will audition in the order in which they arrive. Please allow several hours for the audition process on both Sept. 26 and Oct. 5.

Performers should prepare a number/act using the following specifications:

  • Not to exceed 2 minutes.  This time limit will be strictly enforced at auditions.  Acts chosen for the show will have approximately 3 – 3½ minutes to perform but for the sake of time, we must limit auditions
  • A holiday theme is required (upbeat preferred)
  • Tracks are to be formatted to CD. If necessary, a keyboard and microphones will be provided.  Please provide your own keyboardist.
  • Stage dimensions are 24’ x 16’
  • Group size not to exceed 25 persons
  • Those acts that audition in person are generally more successful.

Selected groups/performers must commit to two evening rehearsal dates, Oct. 30 and Nov. 13, prior to the event and from 2:30 – 8:30 p.m. on the day of the event.  Call 317.237.2317 or email with audition questions.
