In 2014, UniverSoul Circus celebrates a major milestone – 20 unforgettable years of its unique brand of family friendly entertainment featuring a multicultural, multinational, blend of music, theater and circus arts under the big top.  Twenty years ago, UniverSoul Circus redefined the center ring with an amazing combination of fun-filled, high-energy with an urban vibe, distinctive artistry, and audience interaction.

The 20th anniversary celebration of the UniverSoul Circus returns to the circle city Tuesday July 15 thru Sunday, July 20 at Lafayette Square Mall located at 3919 Lafayette Road, Indianapolis IN 46254. Tickets, starting as low as $16, are on sale now via or 1-800-345-7000.

UniverSoul Circus has partnered with the Indiana Black Expo to offer Hoosiers a “Two Events, One Price” discount ticket.  For $20.00, the ticket is good for admission to the Indiana Black Expo at the Convention Center and the UniverSoul Circus at the Lafayette Square Mall.  UniverSoul Circus “Two Events, One Price “ tickets are available at the Indiana Black Expo office located at 3145 North Meridian Street.

Circus goers in Indianapolis will be treated to some of the most breath-taking and sought-after circus acts from around the world. Fourth of July: Donatos Downtown Freedom Blast and more

The Donatos Downtown Freedom Blast returns to the grounds of the Indiana War Memorial July 4 for Indianapolis’ most popular fireworks show. More than 20,000 people are expected to be Downtown on Veterans Memorial Plaza and American Legion Mall from 6:30 – 10:30 p.m. The fireworks will launch from the Regions Bank Tower at 10 p.m. (North and Michigan streets will be closed throughout the day and New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Delaware streets surrounding the Regions Bank Tower will be closed 9:30 – 10:15 p.m. during the fireworks show.)

Crowds will gather for many music festivities including the Indiana Historical Society’s Concerts on the Canal series from 5 – 9:30 p.m. The Rathskeller Biergarten is hosting a Fourth of July Weekend with bands July 3 – 5. There will be a Rusted Roots performance in the Old National Centre parking lot, followed by a great view of the Downtown fireworks.

The Indianapolis Indians take on the Louisville Bats at 6:05 p.m. with its own fireworks show after the game. Fans are encouraged to stay to enjoy the Downtown fireworks. The Tribe has a home stretch July 4 – 13.

Indiana Black Expo Summer Celebration returns July 10 – 20

Summer Celebration returns for the 44th year with business seminars, conventions, concerts and more. More than 80,000 attendees will take part in events at various locations Downtown, although most events will take place at the Indiana Convention Center. On July 18, thousands will gather on the American Legion Mall for the Music Heritage Festival outdoor concert featuring Keith Sweat, After 7 and The S.O.S. Band. Big crowds will return Downtown on July 19 as the music festival continues with Anthony Hamilton, Chrisette Michele and Babyface at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. For more information, visit

Downtown gets festive

There’s still time to enjoy some of Downtown Indy’s best summer festivals. Taste unlimited craft beer samples from more than 50 local and national breweries at Brew-Ha-Ha June 21. PBS Kids in the Park takes over Military Park June 21, giving kids the chance to meet many of their favorite PBS characters such as Clifford and Curious George. And for a taste of some of Indy’s best restaurants, attend Taste of Indy on the Canal July 5.

Enjoy live tunes outside this summer including the Groovin’ in the Garden series at Easley Winery. The Indianapolis Zoo’s Zoolapalooza series continues on two Fridays in June (June 20 & 27) and three Fridays in July (July 4, 11 & 18). Another Zoo concert series – Animals and All That Jazz – kicks off on July 10 and continues every Thursdays in July. Indiana Historical Society’s Concerts on the Canal continue through the end of July. Reserve a table on the Stardust Terrace or bring a chair or blanket and take a seat on the grassy hill right off the Canal.

Catch the Fever and join the Tribe!

The Indianapolis Indians play three more games this month and 17 home games in July. The Indiana Fever play three home games at Bankers Life Fieldhouse this month and on July 5, 10, 12, 15 & 17. After no home games in June, the Indy Eleven are back to IUPUI’s Michael A. Carroll Stadium one time next month on July 19.

Indy’s new neighborhood themed Downtown recreational soccer league, Indy City Futbol, is in full gear. Catch them every Wednesday through the end of August at the Visit Indy Field at White River State Park.

Celebrate the Indiana Black Expo Summer Celebration in its 43rd year.  The celebration takes place July 11 – 21 at the Indiana Convention Center plus various other Downtown venues.  Summer Celebration is the largest African-American event in the nation with an anticipated attendance of more than 300,000 people. Enjoy everything from live music at the Music Heritage Festival to exciting youth activities such as Youth Entrepreneur Seminar (YES)Youth Leadership Summit (YLS) and the Family Fun Zone. Take advantage of employment opportunities, health fairs, cultural pavilions, various exhibits and more!

IBE Film Festival
Experience moving films and eye-opening documentaries spread over two days.  The lineup includesThe Lower 9: A Story of Home,a film showcasing four residents trying to reestablish their lives after the destruction of Hurricane Katrina and the ongoing struggles of their neighborhood seven years later. The first place winner not only receives a $500 investment but an exhibitor’s booth during the annual Summer Celebration Weekend to market and sell their business service or product.
