The Indianapolis Museum of Art (IMA) will celebrate New Year’s Eve with its second annual event. New Year’s Eve at the IMA will take place beginning at 9 p.m. in Pulliam Family Great Hall and the museum galleries, and will include cocktails, heavy hors d’oeuvres from Kahn’s Catering, and music from Henle And The Loops and DJ Record Shop. The party will last until 1 a.m.

The end-of-year gala will support the first artwork acquisition of 2014—a Soundsuit by internationally-renowned contemporary artist and fashion designer Nick Cave. Soundsuit will be on display during the event for attendees to view and $25 of each ticket will go toward its acquisition. The balance of each ticket will directly support museum operations, from underwriting summer camps and school tours to new exhibitions and public programs.

“This is a significant acquisition for the IMA. Cave’s hand-assembled, larger-than-life colorful fabric sculptures known as Soundsuits are powerful, whimsical and clever at the same time,” said Niloo Paydar, curator of textile and fashion arts at the IMA. “Constructed from mostly found objects such as buttons, beads, feathers, twigs, dyed human hair, toys, ceramic birds and fake flowers, these imposing objects captivate, intrigue and challenge all audiences.”

For 2013, the event has been expanded to include a Patron Dinner beginning at 8 p.m. in addition to the main event. The Patron Dinner will include a formal dinner in the Deer Zink Special Events Pavilion, remarks by Dr. Charles L. Venable, the Melvin & Bren Simon Director and CEO, and a live jazz performance.  Patron Dinner tickets are available for $250 ($170 of each reservation is fully tax-deductible).

Early bird tickets to the event are on sale now at a discounted price of $125 through October 31 ($89 of each reservation is fully tax-deductible). Starting on November 1, tickets to the main event will increase to $150 ($114 of which is fully tax-deductible). Tickets to New Year’s Eve at the IMA can be purchased at

The 2012 event, 6 x 13: New Year’s Eve at the IMA, was a sold out affair with more than 700 guests in attendance, and helped the museum raise the funds to acquire five works of art and complete one restoration project on the grounds. Following last year’s success, the IMA expanded this year’s event with multiple cocktail lounges and will offer 1,000 tickets.
