There will be more than birds singing this summer at the Indianapolis Zoo as two popular concert series return to offer nine nights of music, food and wild fun.

The Zoolapalooza and Animals and All That Jazz series, both presented by Central Indiana Honda Dealers, will feature a diverse lineup of musical performers, including many acts that are new to Zoo concert crowds as well as a few returning fan favorites.

Guests start their weekend on a high note with Zoolapalooza. Now in its sixth year, this concert series will feature some of the area’s top bands playing a mix of classic favorites through today’s popular hits. The music will be rockin’ each Friday night from June 17 to July 8. The 2016 Zoolapalooza lineup will feature:

• June 17: Airstream Betty
• June 24: Tim Brickley and the List
• July 1: Dave & Rae
• July 8: Parrots of the Caribbean

As the summer heats up, visitors can keep it cool with Animals and All That Jazz. One of the Zoo’s longest-running events, this concert series will showcase a full range of distinctive artists, acts and musical stylings. Now in its 29th season, Animals and All That Jazz kicks off July 7 and continues every Thursday through Aug. 4. The 2016 lineup will include:

• July 7: Tucker Brothers Band
• July 14: Gene Markiewicz DM Jazz 8
• July 21: Ty Causey
• July 28: Craig Brenner and the Crawdads
• Aug. 4: Cathy Morris and Brazilian Jazz

For all concerts, live music will play from 5:30 to 8:30pm in the Party Pavilion near the front of the Zoo. Rides and animals will be available until 7pm, and with plenty of exhibits nearby, visitors can enjoy the full Zoo experience without missing a beat. In addition to regular Zoo fare, each concert will also feature a different menu of specialty food items and a full bar.

Summer concerts are free for Zoo members and included with regular Zoo admission. Discount tickets will be available, while supplies last, at Indiana Members Credit Union locations. Guests can also save money by purchasing advance tickets online at http://IndianapolisZoo.com/

The tunes are sure to get toes tapping and hands clapping. Whether it’s current hit tunes or a remixed oldie, Zoolapalooza’s musical vibes continue to delight guests year after year with entertainment from some of the area’s top musical acts.

Now in its fourth year, this concert experience will start the weekend off right and have guests rockin’ the night away on the dance floor presented by Macy’s for five consecutive Friday nights from June 20 to July 18, 2014.

Live music runs from 5:30 to 8:30pm, with animals and rides available until 7pm. In addition to regular Zoo fare and drink specials, each concert features specialty food options available for purchase with tastes to tempt everyone. Zoo members will have access to a different free featured ride each night.

With plenty of animal exhibits nearby, as well as the Kroger Splash Park, concert goers can enjoy the full Zoo experience without missing a beat. This year’s Zoolapalooza series features:

June 20:

  • Artist: Impalas — A wildly entertaining group that combines soul, R&B and rock with a touch of swing. This dynamix group has been featured at several past Zoo events, including Zoobilation and Zoolapalooza.
  • Menu: Taste of Summer: salad bar, beer can chicken, apple streusel à la mode
  • Featured ride: Kōmbo Family Coaster presented by Outback Steakhouse

June 27:

  • Artist: Jennie DeVoe —A Zoolapalooza fan favorite, Devoe is an original singer and song-writer whose music is inspired by blues, soul, hippie, funk, roots and acoustic genres.
  • Menu: Luau at the Zoo: salad bar, Luau lettuce wraps, Hawaiian snow cone
  • Featured ride: White River JunctionTrain presented by Marathon

July 4:

  • Artist: 8 Miles High —This classic rock band is new to Zoolapalooza and will be belting out hits from the 1970s, ‘80s, ‘90s and today.
  • Menu: Americana: salad bar, Zoo-liders, strawberry shortcake
  • Featured ride: Carousel presented by Geico

July 11:

  • Artist: Bahama Llama — Guests will be swaying to the beat of island-inspired rhythms from this high-energy band.
  • Menu: Night of Havana: salad bar, Cubano sandwich, ice cream sundae
  • Featured ride: Kōmbo Family Coaster presented by Outback Steakhouse

July 18:

  • Artist: West Central Quartet —Making its Zoolapalooza debut, this band performs everything from jazz classics to contemporary music from every genre.
  • Menu: Ball Park at the Zoo: salad bar, Philly steak or chicken sandwich, Dippin’ Dots
  • Featured ride: White River Junction Train presented by Marathon

This season, the concerts will take place in the middle of Zoo grounds, with the new Simon Skjodt International Orangutan Center as the backdrop. In the event of inclement weather, the festivities will simply move under the Party Pavilion near the front of the Zoo.

Concerts are included with regular Zoo admission and free to Zoo members. Guests are encouraged to save time and money on their Zoo visit by purchasing tickets online at IndianapolisZoo.com.  Concert goers can also find a coupon on the Zoo’s Facebook page that’s good for $4 off admission at the gate for entry after 4pm on the night of the event.
